About
The MSP Project is committed to documenting the experiences of those left behind in the aftermath of the conflict. In addition to cataloguing archival files, the project seeks to foreground the personal narratives of dependents whose lives were profoundly altered by loss in the aftermath of the Civil War. Selected case studies illustrate the enduring social and economic consequences of these deaths, offering insight into the conditions and values of an emerging state. At the same time, they reveal the often impersonal and bureaucratic nature of the interactions between bereaved families and state authorities. By combining meticulous archival work with attention to individual experience, the MSP Project strives to highlight that history is shaped not only by official records but also by the struggles and resilience of ordinary people.
