1 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 353 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 301 all ranks. The companies of the 1 Battalion were located as follows: Carlow, Bagnalstown, Leighlinbridge, Killeshin, Balinabranna, Nurney, Newtown, and Rossmore.
2 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 151 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 79 all ranks. The companies of the 2nd Battalion were located as follows: Baltinglass, Grangecon, Tynock, Donard, and Rathangan.
3 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 354 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 244 all ranks. The companies of the 3 Battalion were located as follows: Clonmore, Grangeford, Hacketstown, Rathvilly, Tullow, Ballon, Killinure, Clonegal, Myshall, Kildavin, and Ardattin.
4 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 298 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 300 all ranks. The companies of the 4th Battalion were located as follows: Ballymurphy, Clashganny, Rathanna, Ballyglisheen, Marley, St. Mullins, and Borris.
5 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 230 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 160 all ranks. The companies of the 5th Battalion were located as follows: Athy, Barrowhouse, Moone, Ballylinan, Moat, and Castledermot.
6 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 347. This unit was re-organised by 1 July 1922 and the strength at that date was 147 all ranks. The companies of the 6 Battalion at 11 July 1921 were located as follows: Dunlavin, Seven Stars & Kildoon, Suncroft, Kilcullen, Kilgowan, Kildare, and Monasterevan. The companies of the re-organised 6th Battalion by 1 July 1922 were located as follows: Dunlavin, Seven Stars, Ballytore, Kildoon, Kilgowan, and Monasterevan.

An Active Service Unit was effective with the Carlow Brigade on 11 July 1921 with a total strength of 11 all ranks. Personnel were attached to the A.S.U from the battalions of the brigade.
