Building with Pillars Dublin's City Hall and occupied by main attacking force on Dublin Castle. Both the officers Commanding the attack, Captain Seen Connolly, and his second-in-command, Lieut. O'Reilly, were killed in this building.

The Mail office was occupied by four members of the Irish Citizen Army who were later joined by one Volunteer from the 3rd Battalion. This building commanded the Upper Gate of Dublin Castle where the initial attack took place. St also commands Dame St. looking towards Trinity College.

This is the Upper or Main Gate to Dublin Castle. It was here the initial attack was made and, I believe, the first shot was fired. The Guard Room was behind the railings to the right. On the left was a Pedestrian entrance where an armed member of the D.M.P. was standing. The Gates were open as we approached in extended formation The Pillar on left is portion of side entrance to City Hall.

Top of Ship St. entering Stephen St. Ship St. Barracks on left. A wall with railings looked into what would be the Barracks Square or Parade Ground. Two tenement houses overlooking this were to be taken over by members of Jacob's Garrison. This, in effect, would mean that every entrance to Dublin Castle was accounted for.

This picture is taken inside main Gate of Castle to the right. The building directly in front is a Corporation Departmental Office. We had a key made for the door here, but in the final arrangements it was overlooked. This building was not occupied. Guard Room is on left. This was occupied by the attacking party after a brief fight.

Synod House on corner of Michael's Hill and High St. Three members of Citizen Army occupied portion of this building to the left. They were to delay troops coming to the relief of the Castle Garrison.

Little Ship Street and back entrance to Dublin Castle. The building above the arch and Gates was our objective, but we were unable to gain an entrance from this side.

The building on your right was known as ship St. Barracks. The entrance - a big Gate being in the middle. The rere portion of werburgh St. Church can be seen in the distance, behind the trees. Directly in front of the trees is a new building - Labour exchange. St is of recent construction. This building was constructed on a plot of ground occupied by four members of the Irish Citizen Army. We could fire on troops Leaving or entering Ship St. Barracks. This picture must be seen in conjunction with D 117/1 and 117/2.

Both buildings on corner of street on left Parliament St. were occupied by attacking Force. The first one is the Evening mail office; the other Tarlo's was at that time Messrs. Henry and James, Clothiers. Besides being part of the attacking force they also acted as defenders to the rere of main attacking. The Mail office commands Dame St. as far as Trinity College. Henry and James commanded Lord Edward St. to Christchurch Cethedral. Portion of building on right 13 City Hall.
