Now live: New interactive 1916 Action Sites Map by the Military Service Pensions Archive Project
To mark 110 years since the Easter Rising, the Military Service Pensions Archive has launched a new interactive map charting where 2,611 recognised participants were active during Easter Week.
Drawing on medal and pension application records, the map reveals the locations where individuals served between 23 and 29 April 1916. Users can explore the Rising in a new way by searching the map and its associated data by name, location, or organisation.
Combining archival records with digital tools and storytelling, this new project brings together people and places in a dynamic, accessible format, uncovering stories from the archive and offering fresh perspectives on the events of 1916.
The platform also introduces a series of curated “1916 Stories”, highlighting individuals, locations, and key themes at the heart of the Military Service Pensions Collection. New stories will continue to be added, expanding and enriching this evolving resource.
