The evening of 15 September 2026 saw the launch of 'Cathal Brugha Remembered', the latest free publication from the Irish Military Archives. The book features an array of articles on the revolutionary and republican Cathal Brugha, for whom the barracks is named, with a focus on his involvement in the fight for Irish freedom in the years 1916 - 1922. The launch appropriately took place in the environs of the barracks named after Brugha and also appropriate given Brugha's historical links to the foundational years of Óglaigh na hÉireann.
Co-edited by historians Liz Gillis and Gerard Shannon - and featuring their own contributions - the publication has a series of articles by historians and researchers that look at various aspects of Brugha's life, such as his involvement in the Irish language movement, his brave stand during the Easter Rising, his rebuilding of the revolutionary movement after the insurrection, his time as Minister for Defence in Dáil Éireann, his opposition to the Anglo-Irish Treaty and his wider legacy.
The publication follows the successful conference in the barracks marking the 150th anniversary of Brugha's birth in 2024:
