Killing of British soldiers in Montenotte

As a reprisal for the execution by British authorities of 5 of their members earlier that day, the IRA mounted a series of attacks on members of the British forces across Cork city. 2 British soldiers were killed in the Montenotte area and a total of 6 British soldiers were killed altogether. A number were also wounded. An IRA attack was also made on Elizabeth Fort on that night. See also 28 February 1921 Execution of 5 IRA prisoners.
