Coolfadda Ambush

British Army ambush of IRA members at Coolfadda, County Cork on the night of 2 and morning of 3 December 1920. The IRA members were en route to link up with Tom Barry (O. C. 3 Cork Brigade Active Service Unit) for meeting with British soldier who was allegedly willing to provide the IRA with information. The IRA members were ambushed and 3 were killed. The 'meeting' had been set up by one of two British army deserters captured by the IRA. The IRA then killed both deserters some time later - see [3] December 1920 Killing of 2 British Army deserters.
