5 North West Mayo Brigade – 4 Western Division

This brigade did not exist on the first critical date and all data is only for 1 July 1922.

1 Battalion: Unit strength 1 July 1922 was 288 all ranks. This unit was formed by 1 July 1922 by the posting in of seven companies of the 7 Battalion, 2 Brigade (North Mayo). On 1 July 1922 the 1 Battalion consisted of the following companies: Belmullet, Barahane, Corclough,Binghamstown, Tirrane, Carramore and Foxpoint.
2 Battalion: Unit strength 1 July 1922 was 193 all ranks.This unit was formed by 1 July 1922 by the posting in of the first four companies listed below from the 6 Battalion, 2 Brigade (North Mayo). The Rathmorgan company was formed during the Truce. On 1 July 1922 the 2 Battalion consisted of the following companies: Shraigh, Bangor, Geesala, Doohoma and Rathmorgan.
3 Battalion: Unit strength 1 July 1922 was 336 all ranks. This unit was formed by 1 July 1922 by the posting in of the first four companies listed below from the 2 Battalion, 1 Brigade (West Mayo). The Currane company did not exist on the 1st critical date. On 1 July 1922 the 3 Battalion consisted of the following companies: Mulranny, Ballycroy South, Ballycroy North, Achill and Currane.
4 Battalion: Unit strength 1 July 1922 was 415 all ranks. This unit was formed by 1 July 1922 by the posting in of the first seven companies listed below from the 2 Battalion, 1 Brigade (West Mayo). The Shraeens company did not exist on the 1st. critical date. On 1 July 1922 the 4 Battalion consisted of the following companies: Cloughmore, Dooega, Cashel, Dookinela, Keel, Dooagh, Dooniver and Shraeens.
5 Battalion: Unit strength 1 July 1922 was 396 all ranks. This unit was formed by 1 July 1922 by the posting in of the first four companies listed below from the 6 Battalion, and 7 Battalion of the 2 Brigade (North Mayo). The last three companies listed did not exist on the 1st critical date.On 1 July 1922 the 5 Battalion consisted of the following companies: Curranboy, Glenamoy, Pullathomas, Gortmellia, Porturlin, Belderrig and Rossport.
