3 Waterford Brigade – 1 Southern Division

This brigade was formed by 1 July 1922 from units of the 1 Waterford Brigade and 2 Waterford Brigade.
The Waterford Brigade consisted of seven battalions and an Active Service Unit.
1 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 254 all ranks. On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 1 Battalion were located as follows: Glenbeg, Cappoquin & Melleray, Sleady, Colligan, Dungarvan, Abbeyside, Brickey and Modeligo.
2 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 201 all ranks. On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 2 Battalion were located as follows: Kilrossanty, Stradbally, Garranbane, Kilmacthomas, Bonmahon, Newtown and Kilnafrehan.
3 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 315 all ranks. On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 3 Battalion were located as follows: Ring, Old Parish, Kiely’s Cross, Ardmore, Piltown, Clashmore, Ballycurrane and Villierstown.
4 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 400 all ranks.On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 4 Battalion were located as follows: Waterford City, Barrack Street, Gracedieu, Ballytruckle, Butlerstown and Ferrybank.
5 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 328 all ranks. On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 5 Battalion were located as follows: Dunhill, Kilmeadon, Fenor, Tramore, Kill, Dungarvan , Knockaw and Portlaw.
6 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 83 all ranks. On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 6 Battalion were located as follows: Callaghane, Passage East, Killea, Ballymacaw, and Checkpoint & Faithlegg.
7 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 308 all ranks. On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 7 Battalion were located as follows: Nire, Ballymacarbery, Touraneena / Knockboy, Kilbrien, Ballinamult and Dyrick.
An Active Service Unit was effective with the Waterford Brigade with a total strength of 77 all ranks. All of these are stated to have been Pre-Truce. Personnel were attached to the A.S.U from the battalions of the brigade.
