2 Brigade Donegal – 1 Northern Division

1 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 146 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 69 all ranks. Battalion data given is for three of six companies only, and no data is available for the other three companies. Therefore the strength given above – and consequently the Brigade strength – must be considered understated. The companies of the 1 Battalion were located as follows: Buncrana, Desertagney*, Fahan, Dumfries*, Illies and Iskaheen*. (* No data available for company strength.)
2 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 205 all ranks and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 489 all ranks. The companies of the 2 Battalion were located as follows: Carndonagh, Malin Town, Culdaff, Clonmany, Urris, Moville, Redcastle, Caramenagh and Malin Head.
3 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 336 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 314 all ranks. The companies of the 3 Battalion were located as follows: Fanad North, Fanad West, Rossnakill, Milford, Rathmullen, Portsalon and Kerrykeel.
4 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 237 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 723 all ranks (187 + 536: see note below).The companies of the 4 Battalion were located as follows: Letterkenny, Breenagh & Glenswilly, Churchill, Drumkeen and Ramelton. In June 1922 the companies listed as follows transferred en masse from the 5 Battalion to the 4 Battalion and added an additional strength to that unit of 536 all ranks. Drumoghill, Knockbrack & Bonagee, Trentagh, Convoy, Clonlee, Newtowncunningham*, Raphoe* and Whitecross*. (* These companies were not formed until after 11 July 1921).
5 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 137 all ranks. In June 1922 this Battalion transferred en masse to the 4th Battalion, 2nd Brigade. (See note above.)On 11 July 1921 the 5th. Battalion was located as follows: Drumoghill, Knockbrack & Bonagee, Clonlee, Convoy and Trentagh
