2 Arigna Brigade – 3 Western Division

This brigade consisted of four battalions, an attachment of Leitrim companies, and an Active Service Unit.
This brigade – in the unit formation set out here – was not formed by the first critical date 11 July 1921 and all data is for the period 1 July 1922 only. The data for the brigade in the form in which it existed on 11 July 1921, when the 1, 2 and 4 Battalions were part of the 2 Western Division. The 3 Battalion was part of the 1 Midland Division.

1 Battalion: Ballintogher, Dromahair, Newtownmanor, Ballingar, Greaghnafarna, Killavoggy and Glenn. Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 238 all ranks.
2 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 478 all ranks. The companies of the 2 Battalion were located as follows: Gleann, Ballyrush, Geevagh, St. James Well, Highwood, Sooey, Riverstown and Glen Arigna.
3 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 144 all ranks. The companies of the 3 Battalion were located as follows: Drumkeeran, Tarmon, Newbridge, Crevelea, Ballinaglera, Belhavel and Whiteroad.
4 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 155 all ranks. The companies of the 4 Battalion were located as follows: Arigna, Ballyfaran, Crossna, Keadue and Cootehall.Leitrim Companies (attached) 2 Brigade, 3 Western Division. Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 66 all ranks. The Leitrim companies were located as follows: Drumshanbo, Leitrim, Drumkeelanmore and Kiltubrid.

Active Service Unit: A.S.U. effective on 1 July 1922 for the Arigna Brigade with a strength of 9 members. Personnel were attached to the A.S.U. from the battalions of the brigade.
