1 Kerry Brigade – 1 Southern Division

1 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 1,312 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 417 all ranks. The companies of the 1 Battalion were located as follows: Boherbee, Strand Street, Curraheen, Rock Street Tralee, Ballyroe, Farmer’s Bridge, Oak Park and Blennerville.
2 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 1,161 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 607 all ranks. The companies of the 2 Battalion were located as follows: Ardfert, Ballyheigue, Kerryhead, Causeway, Kilmoyley, Abbeydorney, Kilflynn and Churchill.
3 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 748 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 494 all ranks.The companies of the 3 Battalion were located as follows: Lixnaw, Leam, Rathea, Ballydonoghue, Ballybunion, Ballyduff, Ardoughter and Kilflynn.
4 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 434 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 362 all ranks. The companies of the 4 Battalion were located as follows: E Coy. Camp, F Coy. Castlegregory. No specific location given for coy’s A, B, C, and D on file.
A Coy: Cloghane and Cappa; B Coy: Ballinira and Kilcummin; C Coy: Aughacasla; D Coy: Kilshannig and Fahamore.
5 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 856 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 697 all ranks.The companies of the 5 Battalion were located as follows: Inch, Annascaul, Lispole, Dingle, Ventry, Ballyferriter, Ballydavid, Cuas and Milltown.
6 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 1,077 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 506 all ranks.The companies of the 6 Battalion were located as follows: Tarbert, Behins, Bedford, Finuge, Newtown, Listowel, Knockanure, Beale, Duagh, Ballylongford, Asdee and Kilmorna.
7 Battalion: On 11 July 1921 this battalion, in the company formation given below, had not been formed. By the second critical date the battalion had been formed from units of the 1 Battalion and 2 Battalion of the 2 Kerry Brigade. The strength on 1 July 1922 was 856 all ranks.On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 7 Battalion were located as follows: Ballymacelligot, Brosna, Castleisland, Cordal, Knocknagoshel, Lyreacroumpane and Kielduff.
8 Battalion: On 11 July 1921 this battalion, in the company formation given below, had not been formed. By the second critical date the battalion had been formed from units of the 3 Battalion and 6 Battalion of the 1 Kerry Brigade. The strength on 1 July 1922 was 341 all ranks. On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 8 Battalion were located as follows: Ballylongford, Ballydonoghue, Tarbert, Beale, Asdee and Ballybunion.
9 Battalion: On 11 July 1921 this battalion, in the company formation given below, had not been formed. By the second critical date the battalion had been formed from units of the 1 Battalion and 2 Battalion of the 1 Kerry Brigade. The strength on 1 July 1922 was 550 all ranks. On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 9 Battalion were located as follows: Strand Street, Blennerville, Curraheen, Churchill and Ballyroe.

Active Service Unit: personnel taken from the members of the 1 (later formed 9 Battalion Flying Column, effective from 1 July 1922), 2, 3 and 6 Battalions (effective up to 11 July 1921) and of the members of the 1 Battalion Flying Column (went on active service in Tipperary after 30 June 1922).
