Longford Brigade – 1 Midland Division

1 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 660 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 332 all ranks.The companies of the 1 Battalion were located as follows: Clonbroney, Killoe, Collumcille Lower, Collumcille Upper and Ballymore.
2 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 310 all ranks. Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 124 all ranks. By 1 July 1922 the locations of this unit corresponded with those of the 5 Battalion below. The companies of the 2 Battalion for the period 11 July 1921 were located as follows: Ferefad, Briskil, Killashee and Longford.
3 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 329 all ranks. This unit was transferred to 6 Battalion, 3 Brigade, 2 Western Division by 1 July 1922. Therefore data given here for the Midland Division is for the first critical period only. On 11 July 1921 the companies of the 3 Battalion were located as follows: Rathcline, Clough, Newtowncashel, Ballymahon and Forgney.
4 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 408 all ranks. This unit did not exist on the second critical period 1 July 1922.The companies of the 4 Battalion were located on 11 July 1921 as follows: Leggan, Ardagh, Carrickedmund, Edgeworthstown, Moydow and Rathaspic.
5 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 551 all ranks. This unit no longer existed on 1 July 1922 and the unit’s locations then corresponded with the 2nd Battalion above.The companies of the 5 Battalion for the period 11 July 1921 were located as follows: Drumlish, Ballinamuck, Dromard, Moyne and Edenmore.
6 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 354 all ranks. This unit did not exist on the second critical period 1 July 1922.The companies of the 6 Battalion for the period 11 July 1921 were located as follows: Abbeylara, Streete & Rathowen, Mullinaghta and Grana.
