5 Mullingar Brigade – 1 Eastern Division

1 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 180 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 196 all ranks. The companies of the 1 Battalion were located as follows: Mullingar, The Downes, Taughmon and Ballynacargy.
2 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 96 all ranks. This unit was transferred to the Athlone Brigade after 11 July 1921 and in its original formation did not exist on 1 July 1922. The companies of the 2 Battalion up to 11 July 1921 were located as follows: Loughnavalley, Moyvore, Castletown Geoghegan and Skeagh.
2 Battalion: This Battalion was formerly the 4 Battalion, 5 Brigade and had been re-designated as the 2 Battalion, 5 Brigade on 1 July 1922 and its unit strength on that date was 215 all ranks. The companies of  2 Battalion on 1 July 1922 were located as follows: Castlepollard, Stonetown, Whitehall, Glanidian, Coole and Fore.
3 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 117 all ranks and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 141 all ranks. The companies of the 3 Battalion were located as follows: Kinnegad, Milltown Pass, Coralstown, Raharney and Clonlost.
4 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 166 all ranks. On 1 July 1922 this unit (less the Boherquill Company which was transferred to the Longford Brigade) was re-designated as the 2 Battalion, 5 Brigade (See note at 2nd Battalion above). The companies of the 4 Battalion on 11 July 1921 were located as follows: Castlepollard, Stonetown, Whitehall, Glanidian, Boherquill and Coole.

An Active Service Unit was effective with the 5th Brigade up to 1922 with a total overall strength of 30 all ranks. Personnel were attached to the ASU from the battalions of the brigade.
