5 Cork Brigade – 1 Southern Division

On 11 July 1921 this brigade, in the battalion formations given below, had not been formed.
By the second critical date 1 July 1922 this brigade had been formed and consisted of five battalions.

1 Battalion: On 11 July 1921 this battalion, in the company formation given below, had not been formed. On that date this unit formed the 7th. Battalion, 3rd. Brigade, 1st Southern Division. (RO 56). By the second critical date the battalion had been re-formed in the following company formation and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 479 all ranks. On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 1 Battalion were located as follows: Lissagriffin, Goleen, Dunmanus & Gloun, Dunbeacon, Lemcon, Schull, Ballydehob, Skehanore and Lisheen.
2 Battalion: On 11 July 1921 this battalion, in the company formation given below, had not been formed. On that date this unit formed the 4 Battalion, 3 Brigade, 1 Southern Division. By the second critical date the battalion had been re-formed in the following company formation and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 342 all ranks. On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 2 Battalion were located as follows: Baltimore, Skibbereen, Mohonagh, Castlehaven, Myross, Glandore, Drominidy, Leap and Corran.
3 Battalion: On 11 July 1921 this battalion, in the company formation given below, had not been formed. On that date the following companies were part of the 3 Brigade, 1 Southern Division. The Knockbue Company was part of the 3 Battalion, the Bredagh Cross Company was part of the 4 Battalion and the Caheragh, Drimoleague, and Inchingearig companies were part of the 5 Battalion. By the second critical date the battalion had been re-formed in the following company formation and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 386 all ranks. On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 3 Battalion were located as follows: Caheragh, Breadagh Cross, Knockbue, Drimoleague, Castledonovan and Inchingearig.
4 Battalion: On 11 July 1921 this battalion, in the company formation given below, had not been formed. On that date this unit (less the Scart Company which had not yet been formed) formed part of the 5 Battalion, 3 Brigade, 1 Southern Division. By the second critical date the battalion had been re-formed in the following company formation and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 735 all ranks. On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 4 Battalion were located as follows: Bantry, Scart, Durrus, Glengariff, Cappaboy, Kilcrohane, Pearson’s Bridge, Droumsullivan, Coomhola and Kealkil.
5 Battalion: On 11 July 1921 this battalion, in the company formation given below, had not been formed. On that date this unit (less the Lauragh Company which was then part of the 2 Kerry Brigade) formed part of the 6 Battalion, 3 Brigade, 1st Southern Division. By the second critical date the battalion had been re-formed in the following company formation and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 749 all ranks. On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 5 Battalion were located as follows: Urhan, Ballycrovane & Kilcatherine, Ardea, Ardgroom, Eyeries, Rossmacowen, Adrigole, Bere Island, Allihies, Garnish, Castletownbere and Lauragh.
