4 Cork Brigade – 1 Southern Division

1 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 813 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 425 all ranks. The companies of the 1st. Battalion were located as follows: Millstreet, Dooneen, Coole Cross, Kilmeedy, Rathduane, Cullen, Derrinagree, Rathcool, Mushera and Kilcorney.
2 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 867 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 742 all ranks. Note in source states that the total strength of ‘C’ Coy., Meelin, for the 2nd period was 50 of which 38 were inactive sympathizers; and that the total effective strength of the company was twelve. The companies of the 2 Battalion were located as follows: Tullylease, Freemount, Meelin, Newmarket, Rockchapel, Taur, Williamstown (Ballydesmond), Kiskeam, Knocknagree and Umeraboy.
3 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 537 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 358 all ranks. The companies of the 3 Battalion were located as follows: Charleville, Newtownshandrum, Milford, Dromina, Liscarroll, Churchtown, Ballyhea, Effin, Lisgriffin and Buttevant.
4 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 750 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 548 all ranks. The companies of the 4 Battalion were located as follows: Lacklawn, Nadd, Kanturk, Castlemagner, Dromtarriffe, Kilbrin, Boherbue, Banteer, Bawnmore and Derrygallon.
5 Battalion: Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 552 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 527 all ranks.The companies of the 5 Battalion were located as follows: Analeentha, Kilshannig, Twopothouse, Ballyclough, Lombardstown, Ahadillane, Mallow and Burnfort.

An Active Service Unit was effective with the 4 Brigade on both critical dates with a total overall strength of 76 all ranks. Personnel were attached to the A.S.U from the battalions of the brigade.
