3 North Roscommon-South Leitrim Brigade – 3 Western Division

This brigade – in the unit formation set out here – was not formed by the first critical date 11 July 1921 and all data (with the exception of the ASU) is for the period 1 July 1922 only.
The brigade’s 1, 2, 3 and 4 battalions in the form in which they existed on 11 July 1921, were part of the 2 Western Division. The 5 Battalion was part of the South Leitrim Brigade, 1 Midland Division.

1 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 308 all ranks. The companies of the 1st. Battalion were located as follows: Boyle, Doon, Ballinameen, Breedogue and Fairymount.
2 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 115 all ranks. The companies of the 2 Battalion were located as follows: Ballyroddy, Killina, Tulsk, Creeve and Elphin.
3 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 146 all ranks. The companies of the 3rd. Battalion were located as follows: Carniska, Curraghroe, Scramogue, Tarmonbarry, Slatta, Ruskey, Kilyglass, Kilrustan and Strokestown.
4 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 82 all ranks. The companies of the 4 Battalion were located as follows: Kilmore, Drumlion, Croghan and Half Parish.
5 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 852 all ranks. The companies of the 5 Battalion were located as follows: Drumsna, Aughavas, Carrick-on-Shannon, Carrigallen, Barnacoola, Mohill, Drumreilly, Kilclare, Annaduff, Kiltubrid South, Gortlettera, Cornageeha, Ballinamore, Cloone, Drumela and Garvagh.

Active Service Unit: strength of 132 all ranks effective with the 3 Brigade Active Service Unit for the period 11 July 1921, and a strength of 74 all ranks effective with the Brigade for the period 1 July 1922. Personnel were attached to the A.S.U. from the battalions of the brigade and the file contains listings of persons concerned.
