2 Cork Brigade – 1 Southern Division

1 Battalion (Fermoy): Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 825 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 603 all ranks. The companies of the 1 Battalion were located as follows: Araglin/Araglen, Kilworth, Fermoy, Clondulane, Ballynoe or Conna, Castlelyons, Bartlemy, Watergrasshill, Glenville, Kildinan, and Rathcormac.
2 Battalion (Castletownroche): Unit strength on 11 July 1921 was 753 all ranks, and the strength on 1 July 1922 was 326 all ranks. The companies of the 2 Battalion were located as follows: Ballygiblin or Kilbehenny, Kildorrery, Ballindangan, Mitchelstown, Glanworth, Shanballymore, Ballyhooley, Doneraile, Killavullen, and Castletownroche. Note: by 1 July 1922 the following of the companies listed above were posted to form the 3 (Glanworth) Battalion: Ballygiblin or Kilbehenny, Kildorrery, Ballindangan, Mitchelstown, Glanworth.
3 Battalion (Glanworth): Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 426 all ranks. On 11 July 1921 the companies listed below were part of the 2 Battalion (Castletownroche). Note: No explanation is offered on this file for the fact that the locations of the companies are identical to those listed for the 4 Battalion below. The location sequence is as given in the file.On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 3 Battalion were located as follows: Ballindangan, Kildorrery, Mitchelstown, Ballygiblin or Kilbehenny, and Glanworth.
4 Battalion: Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 403 all ranks. On 11 July 1921 the companies listed below were part of the 2 Battalion (Castletownroche). Note: No explanation is offered on this file for the fact that the locations of the companies are identical to those listed for the 3 (Glanworth) Battalion above. On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 4 Battalion were located as follows: Glanworth, Ballindangan, Kildorrery, Ballygiblin or Kilbehenny, and Mitchelstown.
5 Battalion (2nd critical date only): Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 279 all ranks. No explanation is offered in sources for the fact that the locations of the companies – with the exception of Ballyduff – are identical to those listed for the Lismore Battalion below.
Note: on 11 July 1921 this battalion formed part of the 2 Battalion, 2 Waterford Brigade.
On 1 July 1922 the companies of the 5 Battalion were located as follows: Tallow, Ballysaggert, Glendine, Kilwatermoy, Knockanore, and Lismore.
Lismore Battalion (2nd critical date only): Unit strength on 1 July 1922 was 277 all ranks. No explanation is offered in the sources for the fact that – with the exception of Ballyduff – the locations of the companies are identical to those listed for the 5 Battalion above.Note: on 11 July 1921 this battalion formed part of the 2 Battalion, 2 Waterford Brigade.On 1 July 1922 the companies of the Lismore Battalion were located as follows: Ballysaggert, Tallow, Kilwatermoy, Knockanore, Glendine, Lismore, and Ballyduff.

An Active Service Unit was effective on both critical dates. Personnel were attached to the A.S.U. from all the battalions of the Brigade and it would appear from the file listings that the strength of the A.S.U. was in excess of 110 all ranks.
