Reading Room Closure

As part of the 40th Anniversary of Ireland’s participation in UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon), the Military Archives will be deploying a team to Lebanon from 5-10 March to collect oral history testimonies from a selection of Lebanese people who have worked with us over the years, giving commendable service to the Irish Defence Forces and with whom Irish peacekeeping troops have developed a strong and enduring bond.  These interviews will form a very significant and unique addition to our ambitious Military Archives Oral History Project and, by extension, to the military history of the Irish State.

Due to the significant preparation, training, resources and time required to conduct this task thoroughly and professionally, the Military Archives will not be taking queries or Reading Room bookings between MONDAY 26 FEBRUARY and MONDAY 12 MARCH.

While queries will be taken again from 12th March and reading room bookings are being taken for the Tuesday to Thursday, 13th to 15th March (most spaces filled at this stage), there will be a further closure of the Reading Room for the last two weeks of March (from MONDAY 19 MARCH). This is due to another urgent records management project arising, which will require the involvement of all Military Archives staff.
