Military Archives is the official place of deposit for records of the Department of Defence, the Defence Forces and the Army Pensions Board, under the National Archives Act, 1986. Military Archives also actively acquires material that supports its mission in preserving and promoting Ireland’s documentary military heritage in a way that is as nuanced and inclusive as possible.

In this respect, the Military Archives acquires material from other sources that support its mission, primarily through individual private donations, gifting and bequeathed collections. Staff are currently working to process private collections deposited with the Archive to make them available for research in our Reading Room.

Our ‘Military Archives Acquisition Policy’ will illustrate the type of material that falls within our collecting remit and is available to download here or below, while you can also download and view the deposit agreement at the bottom of this page.

The image identification project can involve anyone who signs in to our Flickr account. They can then leave comments giving details on location, equipment/vehicles, or personnel in the photographs. Click here for more information.

I wonder do you collect material...I have a letter in its original envelope...the letter is beautifully written...would this be of interest to you?
