Press Cuttings

Administrative / Biographical history:

Various sections have collected together newspapers and clippings regarding subjects including, and relevant to, the Irish Defence Forces over the years. Earlier versions of the Bureau of Military History would also have kept newspapers describing historic events from 1916 onwards, some examples of which would be amongst this collection. The Bureau of Military History Collection itself contains a large set of historical press cuttings as well. Most recently, the Public Relations Sections have systematically identified and kept relevant articles in clippings files.

Scope and Content:

The collection contains both full copies of newspapers and files containing clippings. Part of the collection is in an approximate chronological order, with gaps in the sequence between 1916 and 1921. A more comprehensive collection of clippings runs from 1922 onwards. There are also boxes of clippings relevant to UN Missions, such as those that were sent to the Congo, Cyprus and Lebanon.
